WHAT IS EXPLORING?
Exploring exists to teach important life and career skills to young people from all backgrounds through immersive career experiences and mentorship provided by community and business leaders like you. Together, we equip young people with character, leadership and life skills that can be used both today and in their future careers.
Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. Businesses and community organizations initiate a career-specific Explorer post or club by matching their people and organizational resources to the career interests of youth in the community. The result is a program of interactive activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, and develop.
We work with thousands of local, regional, and national businesses and organizations to deliver the Exploring programs representing hundreds of different career fields.

Learning for Life-Main
Learning for Life is a character education program designed to support schools and community- based organizations in their efforts to prepare youth to successfully handle the complexities of our contemporary society. Our curriculum prepares students to enhance their self-confidence, motivation, and self-esteem. The program uses age-appropriate, grade-specific lesson plans to give youth skills and information that will help them make positive decisions for themselves, their families and their futures.
Learning for Life makes academic learning fun and relevant to real-life situations in age appropriate and grade specific material. As a result, the positive character traits and skills learned by participation in Learning for Life not only make students more confident and capable, but also give them an invaluable understanding of how things work in the real world. Schools will see higher attendance rates and fewer disciplinary actions.

National Youth Leadership Training-NYLT
National Youth Leadership Training
Now Accepting Interest for NYLT 2025 – All-Alaska Youth Leadership Course!The Midnight Sun Council is proud to host National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) this summer at Lost Lake Camp, from July 27 to August 1, 2025. This all-Alaska course is open to any registered youth member of Scouting America — including Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Sea Scouting — who meets the following:
- Has completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for their unit-type (Troops, Crews, or Ships)
-  Is at least 13 years old and First Class by July 27, 2025
OR - is a registered Venturer or Sea Scout who has completed 8th grade
NYLT is Scouting’s premier youth leadership experience, teaching real-world skills like communication, team-building, ethical decision-making, and problem-solving in a challenging and fun outdoor setting.

Changes to My.Scouting.org
Unit management is about to get easier with the retirement of ScoutNET
You’ve been asking for updates to the functionality of BSA tech products. And, with ScoutNet’s retirement, we’ll be better equipped than ever to deliver technology that meets the requests of units and councils to manage registration and rechartering effectively and electronically.
WHAT DOES SCOUTNET’S RETIREMENT MEAN FOR YOU?
Soon, you’ll find the following improvements made to some of your most frequently used tools:
· Registration and charter renewal tools moved to My.Scouting, where our existing online registration site lives.
· New registrar features on My.Scouting, like a new dashboard offering advanced search, person maintenance and additional reporting features.
· For all units with a December 31 renewal date, expect a simplified recharter system for both internet and paper rechartering within Internet Advancement 2.0.
· New unit self-service tools on My.Scouting:
o This month, a new feature called Position Manager will be added to the My.Scouting tools allowing units to change the registration position of anyone in the unit – no paper application required. For example, if a Cubmaster steps down and a unit committee member replaces her, the unit’s chartered organization representative or their designee can adjust her position without delivering paperwork to the council.
o In addition to the inter-unit transfer feature added this winter, parents and volunteers will be able to transfer to a unit in a new council without filling out transfer forms and new applications – and their records will be automatically transferred to the new council.
These are just some of the changes coming your way as My.Scouting continues to grow in supporting the needs of units and councils in the Boy Scouts of America.

COPE Information
Initiative Games – Games of 10-15 Minutes / team challenges requiring the group to plan and work together to solve a problem and/or
accomplish a goal. They can also require the group to actively look out for each other through spotting, which increases group trust. (Age, height and weight requirements may apply.)Â
Low COPE – The area has a number of elements from a wall, trust fall, beams, etc. to teach teamwork & communication.Â
Climbing wall/tower – A 40-foot tower with climbing faces and a rappelling wall.
Zipline – A 411 foot zipline for the brave.Â
High COPE – High Ropes (30 foot above ground) course. This course will challenge even your best climbers!Â
Note: Scouting America age requirements are utilized from the “The Guide to Safe Scouting”.

Cost of Director: $50 active Instructor / $25 on site

Zip line: $15 first zip $5 each additional zip

COPE Package: $60 per participant (this includes Initiative Games, Low COPE, Climbing/Rappelling, and High COPE).

Staffing– All activities are managed by a Scouting America certified course director. Assistance from adults is required depending on the element.

Equipment/Course – All ropes and hardware are purchased, logged and retired on schedule. Safety equipment includes helmets, harnesses and gloves when needed. The course is inspected and certified each year by an outside agency
